Khater Massaad was only found guilty of fraud related allegations by the Sheikh in his own personal courts. He was judged in absentia. Saud had attempted to extradite Dr Massaad from Saudi Arabia, but failed due to a lack of evidence. The ruler then withdrew civil claims from Saudi Arabia and immediately returned to his own personal courts where judgments against Dr Massaad could be guaranteed. Saud's "evidence" included a forced confession from Karam Al Sadeq who is suing Saud's agents for torture and human rights violations committed in order to obtain the false confession. When Saud came into power, he went on a purge and jailed foreign nationals he thought may have threatened his rule or otherwise sympathised with his rival for the throne. Not everything is as it seems, and RAK judgments in absentia cannot be taken seriously.
